*Batch 1 coming soon: The first batch will be constructed from moroccan blue recycled 20d Silpoly, in two sizes. I will be making a color sample to update the pictures, and producing a small batch likely available April.
Story: ‘Mid is short for a floor-less pyramid shaped shelter. When traveling through the desert in winter, many nights are perfect for sleeping under the stars. But some nights are “mid-nights”, when a cold wind picks up or a storm is brewing and you appreciate the shelter of your ‘mid. Being floor-less, you can set up your sleep area, then decide later if you want to pitch your ‘mid on top of it. Or if a storm rolls in at midnight (pun intended), you will appreciate the quick and simple setup of your mid-night shelter. And unlike a tarp, the mid-night pitches tightly to the ground so it actually provides a warmth boost and a cozy place to shelter from the elements. For me, this tent was born as the perfect shelter for high desert trips in winter, where long cold and windy nights are common, but dry air makes moisture management less of a concern.
Purpose: This shelter maximizes a protection from the elements with the least weight possible. It is excellent for cold conditions, snow and storms. When pitched tightly to the ground it is also quite bug resistant, however there is little ventilation in this mode so expect condensation. It’s the perfect shelter for tarp users who need more storm protection, or for those who like tents but would like to try something lighter and floor-less. In my opinion this style of shelter is one of the best compromises of weight and storm protection. In very buggy conditions, pair it with a bug bivy (I would like to release a net tent in the future for this purpose as well).
Features: The mid-night designed to pitch tighter to the ground than other square ‘mids, due to a slightly hexagonal shape. It can be pitched with just 4 stakes in a pinch, but 6+ stakes are ideal. Includes a peak vent. However don’t expect this to reduce condensation much! The peak vent is meant to provide breathing air if the perimeter of the tent gets sealed off with snow. The zipper is vislon with an xpac rain flap that wont get pinched into the zipper. Includes door ties and mid panel tie outs.
Sizing/Specs:
Details and Options: In its standard configuration this tent comes with 8 ground level tieouts plus an additional 3 mid panel tieouts. The storm mode option adds 5 mid panel tieouts for a total of 16 tieouts. This mode is highly recommended for winter camping as it reduces sagging from snow loading. it also adds stability in very windy conditions.
